Borrowed Joy

This post is part of the Other Mother’s Freedom to Marry Blog Carnival!

Today is Ellison’s 6 Month Smoke Free Anniversary! Since it’s not mine I’m considering this milestone to be something borrowed.

We’ve been together for more than 8 years and in that time, I really saw her health decline. It was something neither of us talked about much, but it was starting to get really scary. I’m so proud of her for quitting and sticking with it, even when it’s awful and sad and scary. And I’m really enjoying how much more energy she has, how much better she feels, and how proud she is of herself. Look at how it’s all added up!
