The more I read about the great things chickens do for organic gardens, the more I want to get some backyard chickens. Apparently full-grown hens are even relatively cat-safe – they’re too large for cats to want to take on. They control bugs, they weed, they fertilize, and they even turn the compost for you. Unfortunately my urban homestead is in a city that prohibits chicken-tending. I wonder what the process is to get a variance.
