Snow Day

It was well worth the $40 to not have to shovel ourselves out, even though I could hear my dad saying, “Don’t be a wimp!” But the old man has a snowblower. And we got, like, 18 inches.

I made 7 dozen melting moments* for a cookie swap at work, washed and folded 5 loads of laundry, ate some chili, watched the Steelers win in the last second (phew!), and found ways to keep warm.

In other news, LouLou the Christmas Elephant is coming along well. I had to reknit the trunk, as it looked like a disturbing cross between a beak and a penis, totally inappropriate for a child’s gift. I just have to sew on the limbs and weave in all the ends – my least favorite parts of knitting – and then I can get back to more fun knitting. Fingers crossed for an on-time delivery.

*Melting Moments

Cream together 1 c. butter and 1/2 c. sugar. Slowly add 1 1/2 c. flour and 1/2 c. cornstarch. Put teaspoon-size balls on an ungreased cookie sheet, and mark with fork tines. Bake about 20 minutes at 350 degrees. Cool on racks. Consume copious volumes. They’re irresistable.

  1. We got Nothing – no snow!

Glad you are safe – and happy – baking I see!

I will be trying those cookies…

  2. Enjoy, Sara. It’s a family recipe through my mom’s side of the family, and are both easy and delicious.
